This approach involves step by step structured stages. Each step must be completed before moving along to the next. In this case, attention is paid to the fashion of stages, in that they must be orderly and structured. In this case, you start from the top and work your way down, hence why it is called the waterfall approach. There is a distinct start and finish and each step is completed in a pre defined order.
